What can psychotherapy do for me?

My name is Adam Garcia Walterbach LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker). I am a Denver psychotherapist who specializes in helping LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer) clients and consulting young professionals here in the Denver startup scene and other professional settings. I conduct both individual therapy and couples counseling sessions for LGBTQ and heterosexual clients.

When deciding to seek therapy, you are making the conscious choice to pursue the desired changes in your life to optimize and increase your overall well being. You’re investing in a better version of yourself, becoming the hero of your story. Success is your pathway. It’s time to open the doors to your ideal self and reconcile with the doors you have left open from your past.

My Clients

I’ve helped a number of clients in Denver (along with the surrounding areas in Colorado) and California (I hold a license to practice psychotherapy in both states) recognize their full potential in their career fields and their personal lives. Working through strained relationships in the family, marriage, dating, friendships, community, and occupation can help elevate your self esteem and give you a positive outlook on life.

Personal relationships are important, but so is a healthy work-life balance. Are you transitioning into a new career field or questioning the one you’re currently in? Psychotherapy will help boost your confidence by having a clear understanding of your life’s purpose.

As a Denver psychotherapist I work with a variety of client issues and concerns, ranging from anxiety and depression to existential and identity-related dilemmas, some of my areas of expertise are;

  • Assisting members of the LGBTQ community with their specific concerns and dilemmas while taking an accepting and affirming approach. Sexuality, sexual identity, culture, and the self are all areas that I help you explore in therapy in relation to your lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or queer distinction. Coming out, sexual or romantic fulfillment, perfectionism, shame, and vulnerability are just some of the many areas where I can assist you.

  • Professional counseling at each level to help navigate and reduce the stress in a corporate or Denver startup environment. Whether you’re a C-level executive, manager, employee, or entrepreneur I want to assist you in feeling heroic in relation to your job or career development. It’s time to become the leader you envision yourself to be. Negotiating a higher salary, getting that promotion, starting a new venture, or moving to a different company are all areas that are psychologically relevant and part of what we can work on in therapy.

  • Assisting couples in intimate relationships resolve conflict and increase fondness and appreciation of one another. Your partner is someone you want to become increasingly connected to, therapy can promote an increased sense of intimacy and vulnerability, passion and sexual connectedness, as well as productivity and efficiency with your loved one. I work with gay couples, straight couples, those who are married, dating, or cohabitating. You can still have relationship goals that incorporate and do not conflict with your individual personal goals.

The Collaborative Nature of Therapy

Collaboration is key. In essence, the more you share, and the more time you invest, the more I, as your Denver psychotherapist, can assist by utilizing my knowledge and training to help you in building the life experiences that you desire.

I find that discussing the past can be useful in understanding our present. What is the present other than the compounded experiences of your past? Calling attention to your past experiences allows you to bring awareness to what has affected you and help determine the direction in which you are heading.

Determining the right Denver therapist

Where am I heading?

Do I know how to get there?

What tools will be useful on my journey?

How can I achieve a sense of balance and fulfillment on this pathway?

What is my story so far and what would I like my story to be?

These are all useful questions to ask yourself when preparing to undergo the transformative changes that define the progress you make in the therapy office and in the world. It is important to have a therapist in which there is a “rightness of fit”. This means that the alliance built with a Denver psychotherapist is one where the foundations of trust, comfortability, and purpose can be established with ease. If there is a discrepancy of trust, comfortability, or you feel that your Denver psychotherapist is unable to be supportive of your purpose then it is my suggestion that you continue to seek a therapist that is relevant to your needs.

Please feel free to contact me and explore my website so that you may determine if I am the right Denver therapist for you.
